Our Approach

At Run the Gamut, we believe that independence is built through meaningful, functional learning experiences tailored to the unique strengths, needs, and goals of each student.

Our approach is guided by evidence-based strategies, with a strong emphasis on functional life skills, individualized assessments, and real-world application to ensure that every learner is prepared for a fulfilling and self-directed future.

At Run the Gamut, we don’t just teach skills—we help individuals build lives filled with meaning, autonomy, and purpose.

At Run the Gamut (RTG), we believe that independence is built through meaningful, functional learning experiences tailored to the unique strengths, needs, and goals of each student.

Our approach is guided by evidence-based strategies, with a strong emphasis on functional life skills, individualized assessment, and real-world application to ensure that every learner is prepared for a fulfilling and self-directed future.

Individualized Skill Development

We recognize that no two young adults with autism have the same strengths, needs, or life goals. Using criterion-referenced skill assessments we identify the most critical and personally meaningful skills for each student. Rather than following a rigid curriculum, each learner focuses on the skills that will have the greatest impact on their independence, employment, and overall quality of life.

Applied Behavior Analysis & Meaningful Learning

Our teaching methods are grounded in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Our approach centers on simplifying complex goals into achievable steps while emphasizing practical, functional, and socially valid skills with immediate, real-world applications.  We strive to promote independence in our students' daily lives - whether it’s navigating public transportation, managing money, preparing meals, maintaining personal hygiene, or self-advocating in a workplace setting.

Planning for Generalization & Long-Term Success

Learning is only valuable if it can be used outside the classroom. At RTG, we design instruction with generalization and maintenance in mind, ensuring that skills learned in one setting transfer to real-world environments. Students have opportunities to practice skills across multiple locations, people, and situations to build fluency and adaptability. Our goal is for every learner to develop functional independence that lasts beyond their time in the program.

Flexible, Strength-Based Teaching

RTG embraces flexibility in teaching methods, recognizing that different learners require different approaches. We adapt instruction to fit each individual’s learning style, communication method, and personal preferences. By focusing on strengths rather than deficits, we create a supportive and motivating environment where participants build confidence while mastering essential life skills.

A Personalized Path to Independence

Rather than following a one-size-fits-all model, each student at RTG works on the most important and personally relevant skills based on their interests, strengths, and long-term goals. Every learner follows a customized path that aligns with their vision for the future.
